COURSE #5: Southern Georgian Bay and the Bruce Peninsula
Departing Collingwood: Saturday, August 6th Arriving Owen Sound: Monday, August 15th Duration: 10 days
TBI’s Pathfinder and Playfair will be in Collingwood from Aug 3 to Aug 6. Among other activities during the layover in Collingwood, Toronto Brigantine’s Board President, Paul Dennis, will be hosting the Crew for the annual President’s BBQ. The TBI Crew put in over 10,000 of volunteer hours this winter and spring to get the boats ready for the summer and take all the training that they need to get their Transport Canada certifications and to ensure a safe sail training season this summer. This is in addition to the volunteer time that they put in as Crew during the summer. Our program is delivered thanks to the commitment of the Crew and their parents!
After this layover in Collingwood, the boats start out with a new group of trainees from historic Collingwood on Saturday Aug 16. For 10 days they will explore both shores of beautiful Georgian Bay. Visit some of the many beautiful Provincial Parks, islands, beaches and inlets that the bay is famous for. After some great sailing adventures, the boats are scheduled to arrive in picturesque Owen Sound, home of WW1 flying ace Billy Bishop, on the western side of the Bay
There are still a few berths available for 2011 Summer Program (particularly Course 6 and 7 – course 7 getting you back to Toronto just in time for the school year start!) so there is still a chance for some lucky tenagers to enjoy their tall ship adventure this summer. Bursaries are available. The TBI Summer Program is eligible for Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
It is not too early to reserve your spot for 2012 Summer Program!
