Update from Toronto Brigantine, Sept 5, 2010:

Toronto Brigantine Inc (TBI) is Toronto’s only tall ship based youth sail training program and operate out of Toronto Harborfront thanks to the generousity of Harborfront Centre.  It has been a great summer season this year.

Our 2010 Summer season started with two important traditions – the Blessing of the Fleet and the promotions of our officers – which we did on June 19.  Closer to home, TBI  hosted some Group programs including among others the Harborfront Centre Sailing Club and a troup of Girl Guides from London ON.

Our first major port event was the Redpath Toronto Waterfront Festival that ending with the Parade of Sail on the Canada long weekend.  We then went on to participate in two other Great Lakes United Tall Ship Challenge port events in  Bay City and Chicago.  We participated in two of the legs of the  race and Pathfinder came in second in one of them!

Over the summer, we operated 7 courses (one or two weeks) with over 150 teenagers participating.   They sailed throughout the Great Lakes (well except Lake Superior) and Georgian Bay.    The trainees were also able to apply their experiences towards their Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Toronto Brigantine’s Summer and Winter programs were just approved for the Awards program this year!

A last bus load of trainees return to Toronto September 5th. They are home just in time to get ready for their new school year.   And finally both vessels, the Pathfinder and Playfair,  will be returning to Toronto on September 19th after a weekend at Erie PA for their Tall Ships Erie 2010.

And for all the other young future tall ship sailors that missed out this year’s Summer Program, there is always next year … and you can sign up now for the Winter Program which starts in October. Participates in the Winter program work on the vessels and get a head start on training for the Summer season.  Participation in the winter program is required for promotion to one of the youth offers positions aboard our brigantines. Check out this video about all that is in store for all you teenagers age 13 to 18 at Toronto Brigantine.

Toronto Brigantine offers Winter Program, Summer Program, and during the shoulder season School Programs and Group Charters for the young at heart.  Call us, to get information about Toronto Brigatine’s youth sail training program or to have us and some recent trainee alumni come to your social club, youth group or school to tell you more about the program.

There are still some slots available for school or group programs this fall!
