TBI’s Wish List

Updated April 5, 2011

Toronto Brigantine’s fundraising efforts include raising funds for our operating expenses and bursary fund, as well as for our capital investment plan of up to $500,000 over three years for updates to the vessels – $50,000 will be done Winter/Spring 2011.  Our overall marketing and fundraising goals are provided here.

In addition to our cash goals, we also appreciate gift-in-kind contributions for any supplies related to the work that we do.

Some suggestions are items that we need include:

    • Boat maintenance tools and supplies. Anything needed on a steel-hauled sail boat including but not limited to:
  • paint, varnish, sandpaper and brushes, cleaning products, power woodworking tools, scrapers, tools, whipping twine, wood, light bulbs, stainless steel water tanks, electronic generators –
  • We go through a lot of sandpaper as you can see here. There is a whole lot of sanding going on – manually and with power sanders
  • Even a new lock for the door on one of the boats.  DONE!
  • Steel  1/4″ 4’x8′ sheets, 44W gauge and all that goes around hull work. In 2010, we did about $13,000 of steel work on Playfair related to hull work.   More is planned in the next three years.
  • New Mooring Lines
  • New engines

  • Programming Support materials: We also appreciate gift certificates for food for the trainees and officers while at the summer and winter programs.   Materials needed for the training programs including printing support for their manuals, log books, maps, knot instruction, and even soccer balls and a net, for activities for the trainees to play while they are on break.

    • Communication and Safety:   Fire extinguishers for Brig House, de-fibilutors.
  • In our operations budget we spend over $13,000 on life jackets (new and refits), life rafts (inspect and repacks every two years), first aid equipment and flares and other items. Click here for details.
  • Communication and navigational equipment are a significant component of our investment in program safety. Click here for details on our telecommunication and navigational equipment needs.

  • Marketing Support and Media Coverage:  We are working on branding and marketing to promote our summer program and support our membership and fundraising activities. We are looking to create some eye-catching banners to hang on the ships as they are docked in the harbour – a great opportunity to promote the summer sail program to walk by traffic on the harbourfront. We would love an agency of record.

  • Volunteers with Specialist boat making skills  including woodworking, boat making, steel welding and other specialist skills that are needed for the ongoing maintenance of the vessels and beyond the skills that the trainees and officers are capable of doing.

  • And Other… Any other items that we can use for many of our fundraising initiatives – whether it is silent auctions at our Annual Pirate’s Ball, raffle prices, items for sale or exchange for  the things that we need.
